Mr. Guliov is an Engineer-in-Training with a year of engineering experience in the oil & gas industry. He joined PCI Engineering Ltd. during his studies for summer terms in 2022 and 2023. Having recently graduated and started his journey as an Engineer-in-Training, Nicholas has begun taking on projects and applying his range of technical skills and practical experience gained through his studies and work experience.
Being at the outset of his career, Nicholas has built foundational hands-on experience through summer work as a maintenance technician at Canfor Pulp’s Taylor facility. There, he worked with Red Seal certified technicians on a refiner retrofit, pump replacements and supported facility turnaround maintenance. Through his summer terms with PCI, Nicholas developed his technical skills in pressure piping design, material specification and gas processing facility upgrades. He also gained experience as an undergraduate research assistant, contributing to cutting-edge studies in combustion science and fluid mechanics where he developed computational fluid dynamics models of methane – air burners.
Nicholas’ project experience includes contributing to the design of a natural gas compressor retrofit, numerical model development for a breathing air system design, as well as facility upgrade projects for various clients in BC and Alberta. During his studies, Nicholas contributed to a design project for a high performance micro air vehicle. He led the airframe design team to achieve an impressive 30-minute flight time within a 6-inch wingspan constraint. By applying state-of-the-art aerodynamic theory and manufacturing techniques, the team earned a gold medal in their senior design exhibition. Through his diverse technical knowledge combined with his practical experience in industry, Nicholas can provide valuable design solutions across many fields.
